Strawberry Farm Manager

Summary:

The Strawberry Manager will be responsible for overseeing all daily strawberry farming operations, including harvest, crop protection, and overall field activities. This position will work closely with the PCA to develop and implement crop protection plans, as well as coordinate and oversee crop protection applications. The Strawberry Manager will collaborate closely with the Harvest Supervisor and Operations Supervisor to ensure efficient and effective daily operations, while maintaining crop quality and production standards. This position will also work closely with the Northern District Farm Manager on budgeting, strategic planning, operational goals, and other key farm initiatives. The Strawberry Manager will report directly to the Northern District Farm Manager.

Responsibilities

• Work with Harvest Supervisor to oversee harvest schedule, fruit quality, harvest crew performance, daily pack-out, etc.
• Work with Operations Supervisor to oversee tractor work, spray applications, irrigation, land preparation, etc.
• Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of irrigation systems and coordinate service and repairs as needed
• Coordinate repairs and service with vendors as needed
• Maintain accurate and timely records of all pesticides, fertilizer, and crop-related applications
• Maintain all required permits and certifications, including Operator Permit with County Agricultural Commissioner and Private Applicators Certificate (PAC)
• Work with PCA on weekly crop scouting and soil/tissue samples as needed
• Maintain accurate inventory records of chemicals and fertilizers in storage
• Promote and maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures
• Work with Food Safety Manager to implement and maintain food safety standards and requirements
• Partner with HR Supervisor on hiring, layoff, disciplinary matters, employee performance, and other personnel related issues

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, or a related field, or a minimum of 3 years of relevant farming experience. Previous berry experience, a plus
• Current Private Applicator Certificate (PAC) required
• PCA license or Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) certification preferred
• Current and valid driver’s license
• Ability to operate tractors or other farm equipment as needed
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with employees and all levels of the organization
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Compensation: Yearly salary range estimated for this role is: $115,000- $130,000. Based on experience and requirements.
